If you have a smaller loveseat instead of a large sofa or sectional, you don’t want a giant table which seems to dwarf the couch. Proportion is important. Also, the style will vary according to the style of the room—a modern chrome and glass table will look pretty odd up against a Victorian parlor set. However, if you choose to decorate in a more Bohemian style, which is basically an eccentric combination of styles, you can get away with a lot more.
When choosing a coffee table, one thing is pretty important. Take your time. A bad coffee table is like a big ugly island floating out in the middle of the room. Who wants that?
